Haiti - Tourism : Haiti elected to represent the Americas region at the UNWTO Committee on Tourism and Competitiveness
Luz Kurta Cassandra François, the Minister of Tourism who participated in Quito, Ecuador, along with twenty other Ministers of Tourism from the Caribbean and the Americas, at the 68th of the Commission of the countries of America, (CAM) of the he World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has been unanimously elected with Uruguay to represent the Americas region for four years on the UNWTO Committee on Tourism and Competitiveness.

This election, which marks the end of the isolation of the Republic of Haiti in international debates relating to world tourism, will allow our country to be able not only to share its experience in this area but also to participate in the development of policies to promote competitiveness in tourism businesses and learn from the experience of other countries in the region which, despite the problems of insecurity they face, have been able to take advantage of World tourism.

Minister François during this summit also signed Haiti's adherence to the International Code for the Protection of Tourists during this event.

On the sidelines of this 68th Meeting, Minister François took the opportunity to discuss with Gustavo Santos, UNWTO Regional Director for the Americas, the importance of introducing into the debates the problems linked to certain threats such as wars, terrorism, banditry... faced by the countries of the region as a brake on their competitiveness.

The two parties have agreed to submit this request to the Executive Council of the UNWTO and to work for a meeting to be held in Haiti around the theme "Tourism and Security".

Minister François also obtained from Director Santos the promise of the implementation in the very near future of a short-term training program for the benefit of 500 young people calling for work in the sectors of the tourism sector.
