Haiti - Insecurity : German and EU diplomats urgently evacuated to the Dominican Republic
Faced with the escalation of violence which led to a state of emergency being declared in the Haitian capital, Dominican authorities are preparing for a possible emergency air evacuation to transport from Haiti to the Dominican Republic the Dominican officials who are in the neighboring country, but also foreign diplomats from friendly countries.

In a press release, Lieutenant General Carlos Luciano Diaz Morfa, Minister of Defense of the Dominican Republic, announced on Saturday March 9 that he had met with staff officers, advisors and representatives of the executive branch to review the protocols safety in the context of an evacuation.

The authorities explained that during the meeting important aspects of logistics for fuel supply, migration formalities, medical care and first aid were discussed. The use of Jimani and El Higüero airports as supply and storage points was considered.

If the evacuation of Dominican officials has not been ordered for the moment, German Ambassador Peter Sauer as well as 11 other people and representatives of the European delegation were evacuated from Haiti on Sunday at 8:00 a.m. to the Dominican Republic aboard two helicopters (N109ZT and H1068) to the heliport of the 14th Battalion of the Army of the Dominican Republic in Jimaní.

The German Embassy and the European delegation will continue their activities from the Dominican Republic.
