Haiti - Education : 3 new schools in Bainet and Côtes-de-Fer
In order to provide its support to the Haitian government aimed at promote access to quality education for children, PLAN-Haiti has built 3 new schools : National School of Petite Plaine in the 5th section Grandou (municipality of Bainet), the National School of Macieux in the locality of Bras de Gauche (3rd section of Côtes-de-Fer) and the National School Congregation of St. Joseph in downtown of this town. These three new schools have also benefited from furniture and teaching materials were inaugurated in early December.

The construction of the National School of Petite Plaine, funded to the tune of U.S. $ 1,150,000 by the organization "OAK Foundation" is part of a project called "Green School". Formerly at the National School of Petite Plaine, children settled under tarpaulins to receive the bread of instruction. "As it was raining, we had no others alternative that to release the children even if the courses we dispensed were interesting," declared Pierre Richard Bartel, Director of this institution during the inauguration.

The National school of Macieux and congregational National School Saint Joseph, destroyed by the earthquake of January 2010, were in the impossibility of opening their doors. As part of a project initiated by the organization Plan-Haiti to resume school activities through schools, two schools were built at a cost of U.S. $ 719.426, funded by the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development (AECID). Each building has 6 rooms of 50 m2, a toilet block and an administrative block respecting seismic standards.

Despite the difficulties encountered in the construction of these buildings related to road inaccessibility and climate problems that have delayed the work, Ms. Miralda Jameau, Director of the Program Unit of South East for Plan-Haiti, expressed her satisfaction for the completion of construction for the benefit of communities stating "Sometimes we had to transport materials on sites with vessels on the head or humpbacked." Ms. Jameau invited community residents to make good use of those buildings, which according to her, are a heritage.

Note that in the framework of these projects, teachers, students and other community members have been trained in the management of natural hazards.
