Haiti - Tourism : Progress of projects and work in Île-à-Vache
Friday, December 13, was held in Île-à-Vache, the 5th working meeting of the Steering Committee of the projects on the island. Chaired by Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, the Minister of Tourism, this meeting took place around the progress of work undertaken since 20 August, 2013.

More than twenty participants (investors, developers, government actors, local authorities and members of the Committee) focused for nearly three hours on the implementation of major development projects.

During this meeting Fernand Sajous, announced a plan of extension of the hotel infrastructures of Abaka Bay, followed by the presentation of the Phase 1.

Fresner Dorcin, the Secretary of State for Plant Production, reported the launch of various agricultural projects including: product traceability, rehabilitation and restocking of mangroves and the establishment of an agricultural farm. According to the Secretary of State, these projects will be developed in synergy with the surrounding communities that will benefit thousands of jobs likely to be created in this process.

As regards social engineering, the Government is in phase to inaugurate three important social projects in Île-à-Vache, including a radio, a community center and restaurant. Note that this project is led by the Haitian company, SODADE.

Local authorities, represented by the Mayor Fritz César and Deputy Jean Fenel Tanis, have meanwhile, seek the support of the population for the "realization of this major development."


Philippe Cinéas, the Secretary of State for Public Works, Transportation and Communications, which intervened on the sidelines of the meeting, assured that the basic infrastructure is being implemented "15 km of roads are under construction, the work of Airport are already started [...] essential dredging work also started this Friday, to facilitate the arrival of equipment in the area," informing also that 8 well drilling had started for the water supply of the island.
