Haiti - Social : Christmas Message of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Haiti
At its ordinary Plenary Assembly in Lilavois, the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Haiti in his Christmas message, appealed to the radical conversion against the socio-political drama faced by Haiti, to the mistrust and exclusion that paralyze the present and threaten the future.

For Bishops, it is urgent to resolve the dispute and rebuild the country. They challenge all categories of the Nation starting with the leaders, who must show integrity and credibility, not to mention the Christians called to transform these alienating and dehumanizing conditions.

In their message the Bishops recall "the socio-political drama of many countries, including ours, is similar in many respects to that of the land of Jesus. The tragic fate of our people is marked by great suffering and conflict situations involving heavy impact on the lives of every Haitian and over the entire the nation, making always difficult our cohabitation as a people. [...]

Today, we continue to generate between us situations of mistrust and exclusion that paralyze our present, threaten our future and alienate our relations with God, with ourselves, with our neighbor and with our environment :

  • The endless fratricidal struggles for power;
  • The lack of respect for others, standards and laws ;
  • Negative and destructive criticism ;
  • Moral degradation and deliquescence of morals;
  • Administrative mismanagement and corruption ;
  • Political polarization, resulting to blocking ;
  • The growing intolerance until the contempt of the other ;
  • The gap increasingly gaping between the haves and the lack.

[...] Who can understand the drama of the people crucified in his story? Who really must help it to find a better future ?

  • Leaders to whom he has entrusted a mandate, that they are men and women of integrity, credible, passionately loving their country ;
  • Religious leaders, that they are spiritual guides safe, artisans of peace, people morally upright able to educate the conscience of the people ;
  • Party leaders, that they remember that politics is above all a commitment to justice and peace, a disinterested pursuit of the common good ;
  • Intellectuals, professionals, entrepreneurs, that they put their many and varied capacities to serve the population ;
  • Public servants and executives on which underlying the public and private administration, that they show fair and honest in the discharge of their duties ;
  • Peasants, workers and employees who carry on their frail shoulders the domestic production, organize themselves more to accomplish in dignity their daily work ;
  • Men and women of the people, son and daughters of this land, that they know that the country needs them to engage together on the path of the reconstruction by the reconciliation. [...]"

Concluding their message "That at the heart of all those nights, the word of love and truth enlightens us and floods us with joy ! [...] Merry Christmas 2013! Happy New Year 2014! Enjoy the celebration of the 1st decade of the Bicentennial !"
