Haiti - Social : TCI urged Haiti to make more efforts to discourage illegal travel
Rufus Ewing, Prime Minister of the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI), urged the Haitian government to make more effort to stem the flow of Haitians illegal immigrants towards his country "The Haitian authorities must do more to discourage their nationals to risk their lives in makeshift boat," stressing that his administration is ready to work with Haiti to prevent tragedies "Each year, are dozens of Haitians who perish at sea trying to illegally reach the Bahamas, the Turks or the United States of America," recalled Mr Ewing.

Recall that on December 25, 2013, he sinking of a sailboat off the Turks and Caicos carrying fifty illegal migrants made 18 victims https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-10166-haiti-social-sad-christmas.html . A month earlier about 30 Haitian nationals had suffered the same fate off the coast of the Bahamas.

Also conscious of this social phenomenon, in order to save lives, the Public Affairs Office of the Embassy of the United States in Haiti, has produced 3 messages in Creole, intended to be widely disseminated to discourage potential immigrants illegal to risk their lives at sea in small boats in search of a better situation...

Wishing that our ompatriots concerned hear these messages and abandon their project before it is too late...
