Haiti - Cholera : UN warns...
Wednesday, Pedro Medrano, Special Envoy of the United Nations warned against the risk of increasing cases of cholera in Haiti [8,330 victims since 2010], which is likely to spread to other countries unless funding is found quickly, to fight against this epidemic.

The Special Envoy stressed that money was lacking for purification tablets, antibiotics and staff "If funds are not found before the rainy season, which begins in May, we will face a very dark situation."

Recalling that although the 65,000 new cases reported in 2013 were the lowest reported yet, the epidemic has claimed over 550 victims, according to UN figures adding "If we are not prepared to make the investment now, we will have this year perhaps close to 180,000 cases and even up to 2000 fatalities..."
