Friday at the NH Hotel El Rancho, the President Michel Martelly, participated in the official launch of dialogue between political parties, the Parliament and the Executive, which took place around the main theme "an n chita pale tande ansanm" with the sub theme "dyalog se premye pa sou wout chanjman an", in order to find a compromise around three major themes agreed at the preparatory meeting last Wednesday: governance, elections and the Constitution https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-10367-haiti-politic-lamothe-welcomes-the-preparatory-meeting-for-the-inter-haitian-dialogue.html

In the presence of the President of the Episcopal Conference of Haiti (CEH), Cardinal Chibly Langlois of different members of parties and alliances of political parties, parliamentarians, members of civil society, the CEH and independent observers, the Head of State thanked the members of the mediation Committee of the CEH and all actors involved in the process.

President Martelly then invited political actors to engage in deep dialogue and negotiations that will follow "Theessential for us now, is our ability to talk between us, to resolve our differences and think for the greater good of the Haitian Nation," reminding the political class the urgency to act now in order to propose all levels of the state machinery a political qualified staff to modernize the Haitian political landscape and consolidate democracy.

The new Cardinal Chibly Langlois, insisted on change, the main objective of these discussions, the collective search for durable solutions "This research of solutions must bedone in truth."

The former Senator of the Centre, Ms. Edmonde Supplice Beauzile, who in the name of political parties welcomed the fact that the initiative of this dialogue is the work of the Haitians themselves. She also recalled that the actors do not have room for error because the nation expects of hese discussions, a commitment that must lead Haiti on teh way of change.

For his part, Senator Steeven Benoit, on behalf of Parliament, welcomed the initiators of the dialogue and asked MOPOD and Fanmi Lavalas, notably absent from the first day of dialogue, to take part in discussions to give the country a chance.

Regarding the absence of the "Patriotic Movement of the Democratic Opposition" (MOPOD), which brings together the main opposition parties : OPL, INITE, RDNP, PLH, PROP, Ayisyen pou Ayiti, KID, Ansanm Nou Fo. Mirlande Manigat, General Secretary "of the Rally of Progressive National Democrats" RDNP member of Mopod refuted the explanation of delay in the convening of MOPOD alleged by the CEH, "It is not serious, the first meeting we had with them, it was at the headquarters of PLB which is now the headquarters of Mopod. They can not pretend they did not have our address "She was shocked that Mopod as structure, has not been invited to take part in the dialogue, adding that members were invited individually but have had insufficient time to consult... [the RDNP received his convening on Monday, January 20, 2014]...

"We are not extremists [...] We have principles and we will not deviate from our line," recalling that the MOPOD was not opposed to the elections, but the party members were not ready to participate in elections under the auspices of an electoral law "adopted in haste" [?] or with the current College of Transient Permanent Electoral Council (CTCEP).

According to Mirlande Manigat, the MOPOD will not reconsider its position and will continue to demand the departure of the Head of State "This is a service that Michel Martelly would make the country if he gave his resignation so that be hold general elections [...]" announcing the forthcoming resumption of street demonstrations to demand the departure of the Head of State...

For his part, Mgr Patrick Arice, that explains having used traditional and technological means to send invitation letters to members of MOPOD stressed that "the interpretation of the notion of delay depends mainly on the willingness or not willing to participate in meetings..."
