Haiti - Politic : Towards a growth pole and of regional development 31/01/2014 10:02:03 The Head of State, who was accompanied to the summit, among others by, Pierre-Richard Casimir, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wilson Laleau, cting Minister of Trade and Industry and Thomas Jacques, Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development, has placed special emphasis on the significant progress made by his administration in the agricultural sector. He took the opportunity to invite investors of 32 other member countries to come and explore the many business opportunities offered by Haiti. "The dream of transforming Latin America and the Caribbean as a growth pole and of development is making great strides towards its realization, since the creation of CELAC," declared the Head of State in his speech at the CELAC. On the sidelines of the summit, the President Martelly met, especially with Ban Ki Moon, the Secretary General of the United Nations, who assured him of the commitment "strong and sustained" of the UN to contain and eradicate Cholera in Haiti. During this meeting, the President Martelly in the context of a gradual withdrawal of Minustah, said he was in favors of the orientation of peacekeepers towards a support to the country's development. The Secretary-General welcomed this perspective for the continuity of the engagement of the UN in Haiti. In addition, the President Martelly reiterated to the Secretary General its firm determination to hold elections in 2014. Facilitate trade and the opening of markets, being essential conditions for economic growth, the creation of decent jobs and the overcoming of poverty, Haiti will host next March, the 3rd meeting of the Working Group for tariff preferences and thus contribute to smooth conduct of negotiations in the commercial area at the CELAC.
