Haiti - Humanitarian : The specialized Committee of the AFD, approves 3 new subsidies for Haiti
At its last meeting the specialized committee of the Board of the French Development Agency AFD for the support to NGO initiatives, approved inter alia, 3 new subsidies for Haiti to the following organizations :

Médecin du Monde (MDM) : (Reduce maternal mortality related to unwanted pregnancies in Haiti)
A subsidy of € 500,000 (50% of the project budget) over 3 years for a project to reduce maternal mortality related to unwanted pregnancies in Port au Prince. This project aims to raise awareness on human sexual and reproductive health, family planning, abortion risks, improving the quality of medical care of incomplete abortions and finally enhance the dynamics of advocacy the realization of sexual and reproductive rights and the decriminalization of abortion. This project will reach 500,000 people through awareness messages to support 3,000 women with post abortion complications, train 35 health workers and support 10 local organizations in advocacy.

Entrepreneurs du Monde (EDM) : (Support for economic initiatives and the creation of small enterprises in Haiti) A subsidy of 550,000 euros (or 21% of total project cost) over 3 years for a project to support economic initiatives and the creation of very small businesses in the neighborhoods of Port au Prince and small peripheral towns of province. The objective is to contribute to the recovery and economic development in Haiti, by the integration of people living in extreme poverty. This is to improve, diversify and expand the offers of social micro-finance of Micro Finance Development Initiative (MI), the local partner of EDM, with services available to heads of poorer families and an integrated management of social performance. The project also intends to expand the range of financial services and socio-economic impacts of a new fund called "Osez l’entreprise" dedicated to the promotion of entrepreneurship and the creation of very small production companies and of services. The project will reach 5,000 new people (4,250 heads of families, 250 entrepreneurs and 500 employees).

Frères des Hommes : (Strengthen the training offered by the Peasant Movement of Papaya in Haiti)
A subsidy of 750.480 euro (50% of total project cost) over 4 years for a project to increase the availability of formation of Papaya Peasant Movement (MPP) peasant organization that supports families in agro-ecology and Community Development in the department of the Central Plateau in Haiti. The project plans to formalize the agro-ecological practices of MPP in technical standards, strengthen its training and to improve the production and structure of family farms supported. The ultimate goal is to contribute to food security in the region through the dissemination of agro-ecological techniques within farmers farms, to promote the rational exploitation of natural resources in Haiti and strengthen the capacities of rural populations to be the agents of change. The project will reach 15 trainers and 105 animators of MPP, 960 family farms and indirectly 60,000 farmer members of the MPP.
