Haiti - Health : At Carnival, the stand of Sophia Martelly, a true «small hospital»
This year at National Carnival which takes place in Gonaïves (2.3 and 4 March), the First Lady, Sophia Martelly significantly improve its first aid stand "[...] as you can see my medical stand this year is much greater than in previous years. In the reception area we have 11 beds, which means that we will be able to get a lot more people in the first stage (triage).

For more complicated cases, we have an emergency room with 5 beds and as innovation this year, we have an operating room if necessary [...] We have 15 doctors and 5-6 different specialists on site."

The First Lady explained that if a case presented at the stand that could not be supported by the structure "[...] we have an evacuation plan, behind we have a ramp and 3 ambulances waiting to evacuate people to another medical center."

The First Lady recalls that "Malè pa gen prejije" it means that accidents can happen to anyone, at any time, "I think everyone should be aware of misfortunes that can happen to a road user, this is why I always tell them, that they do not need to speed, the speed will lead them nowhere to put their seat belt, to not drink when driving [or will drive], do not send SMS, BBM because these behaviors cause accidents, there is loss of life, people who become disabled for a minute... one minute inattention and neglect."

Regarding the increase of capacity, Sophia Martelly was keen to stress "[...] I think we need to improve things, it means that every year we add new things whose population needs. This is not because last year we were overwhelmed, it's just like I said, progressively we must add new features and I'm already ready for the Carnival of Flowers with other novelty [...]"

For those who can not travel in Gonaïves, rendez-vous like every year, on HaitiLibre.com to watch live the Carnival, the 2,3 and 4 March 2014.
