Haiti - Politic : First day of the 25th Meeting of the CARICOM
Monday during the first day of the 25th meeting inter-sessionelle of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), which takes place in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, attended by the President Michel Martelly accompanied by Chancellor Pierre-Richard Casimir was discussed among other economic problems of countries of the region, and the case of the repair of States of the region victims of colonization and the slave system.

According to the British law firm "Leigh Day" specializing in Human Rights, retained by the Caribbean Community, during a closed session Monday, the leaders of Caribbean countries have approved a 10-point plan to require European nations financial compensation for what they describe "as persistent replicas of the slave trade across the Atlantic." The Reparation Commission, said that more must be done for the descendants of slaves in the islands facing serious economic problems.

This plan includes, among other things, a formal apology, the cancellation of the debt of the former colonial powers like Britain, France and the Netherlands, an European aid to strengthen the technology sector, health and education in the region, as well as cultural institutions such as museums and research centers. Martyn Day, one of the lawyers associated with the firm "Leigh Day," said that a next meeting in London between representatives of Caribbean and Europe could take place and "will allow our customers to quickly determine if their concerns are taken seriously. "Recall that in 2010, the former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, had recognized the" wounds of colonization "and declared that France had canceled a debt of Haiti of € 56 million and approved an assistance program.

On the sidelines of the 25th meeting, the President Martelly met privately with several leaders. The Head of State will be back in Haiti later Tuesday.
