Haiti - Politic : Haiti's Participation in the 2nd Summit Extraordinary ALBA-TCP, Petrocaribe 06/04/2014 11:01:46 The objective of this high-level meeting which was attended by 15 member countries of Petrocaribe [Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, Cuba, Dominica, Guyana, Grenada, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, St. Kitts & Nevis, St Vincent and Grenadines , Saint Lucia, Suriname and Venezuela] was to establish an action plan for the eradication of hunger and poverty in the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, an initiative supported by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) which will allow to strengthen the work and the fight against social exclusion. On Thursday, the Haitian delegation composed among others of : Marie Carmelle Rose Anne Auguste, Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister Responsible for Human Rights and the Fight against Extreme Poverty and Mr. Thomas Jacques, Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development, presented the key elements of action plan to accelerate the reduction of extreme poverty and the priorities of the production plan of the Agricultural Recovery. These two documents make a diagnosis of the situation of Food Security and Nutrition (SAN) in Haiti and the responses aimed by the Administration Martelly and Lamothe Government in the fight against extreme poverty. Based on the review of socio-economic indicators and the most important public policy established by the State in the area of SAN, this plan seeks to expose, within the framework of regional look driven by the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), key facts conforming to a strategy for the eradication of hunger and poverty in member countries of Petrocaribe.
