Monday on the Square Toussaint Louverture, at Champ de Mars, the President Michel Martelly, accompanied by the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, and of Stevenson Jacques Thimoléon, President of the Chamber of Deputies, participated in the ceremony commemorating the 211th anniversary of the death of Toussaint Louverture, one of the founding fathers of our country.

The Head of State, in the presence of Me Anel Alexis Joseph, President of the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSPJ), of members of the new Cabinet of Ministers, deposited at the foot of Monument Toussaint Louverture, a wreath to the memory of the precursor of the independence of Haiti, died at Fort de Joux in France, April 7, 1803.

Hollywood actor Jimmy Jean Louis of Haitian origin, interpreter of Toussaint Louverture in the movie of the same name https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-10878-haiti-news-some-news-here-and-there.html present at the ceremony in period costume, reflects the recognition of President Martelly to this great man, that was Toussaint Louverture.

President Martelly believes that this commemoration "challenges us on the need to prioritize solidarity and unity."

Recall that April 7, 1983, the date of inauguration of the Museum of Haitian National Pantheon (MUPANAH) coincided with the entrance to National Pantheon of Toussaint Louverture. Since then, his remains recovered by the Haitian authorities are carefully guarded alongside those of the other Founding Fathers: Jean Jacques Dessalines, Henry Christophe and Alexandre Pétion.
