Haiti - Social : The population of Île-à-Vache will finally have access to drinking water
Tuesday to the Primature, during a working session on the progress of development projects and programs of solidarity underway on the Île-à-Vache, in the presence among other of : Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, Minister of Tourism and Creative Industries, Marie Carmelle Rose Anne Auguste Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister for Human Rights and the Fight against extreme poverty and service providers that intervene as part of project tourist destination Île-à-Vache, the Prime Minister announced that the Île-à-Vache ill finally be supplied with drinking water and that by May 2014, five public fountains will be opened in various localities of the commune.

Recall that the problem of drinking water has always been on the list of the many challenges faced by residents, forced to buy water from Les Cayes. Informed of the situation and aware of the high importance of water treated in public health, the Prime Minister had promised to the population, the building of 5 public fountains and digging of 7 wells on the island.

Mrs. Sabine Malebranche of the firm SODAD, gave assurance that these wells will be operational by next month and will serve 80% of the inhabitants of the island, noting that the construction of these wells has already created 50 direct jobs in the areas of "Kay Kòk" and "Madam Bèna" These new jobs are in addition to hundreds of other generated by the construction of several stretches of road on the island whose company "Estrella" is the prime contractor.

Moreover, the interventions of the National Social Assistance "Ede Pèp" program will be strengthened to fight against extreme poverty and food insecurity in the region. More than 641 mothers are already registered in the sub program "Ti manman cheri" and will receive a monthly allowance to enable them to organize and address their needs. In addition, 7,000 "Panye solidarite" and 5,000 emergency vouchers will be distributed to residents of the island over the next 6 months.
