Haiti - Politic : President Martelly received members of Congress
Wednesday at the National Palace, President Michel Martelly, in the presence of Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, of the American Ambassador in Port-au-Prince, Pamela White, and the Ambassador of Haiti in Washington, Paul Altidor has received a delegation from the U.S. Congress, composed of Republicans Robert Goodlatte (VA), Steve King (Iowa), Thomas Marino (Pennsylvania), and Democrats Gregory W. Meeks (New York) and Sheila Jackson-Lee (Texas).

This friendly meeting, which aimed to strengthen and consolidate relations between Haiti and the United States, was an opportunity for the Head of State to emphasize on the considerable efforts of his administration to put the country on the path of development, despite the limited resources available.

In addition, the President Martelly discussed the issue of inter-Haitian political dialogue, which resulted in the signing of the El Rancho Agreement and the electoral process. The Head of State expressed its unequivocal commitment to hold elections this year. He also reaffirmed his faith in the pursuit of dialogue to establish a climate of trust that can reassure politicians. In addition, the President of the Republic, said he was determined to fight for the political and institutional stability and strengthen the rule of law.

In addition, the Head of State has requested the support of U.S. lawmakers, so that development assistance provided by their country to Haiti, be channeled directly through the institutions of the State, in order to enable the Authority to better meet the high expectations of the Haitian people.

Unanimously, the members of the delegation welcomed the progress made in Haiti over the past three years and the efforts of the Martelly Administration and reassured the Head of State of their full support.
