Haiti - Politic : Training in Sign Language in the Public Service
In the context of the fight against the exclusion of disabled in Haiti, Gérald Oriol Jr. Secretary of State for the Integration of Persons with Disabilities (BSEIPH) recalls that a administration and a Public Service reformed "must be inclusive, by taking into account people with special needs. In Haiti, particularly in public services, it is imperative to inculcate notions, of values to people for a better understanding of the human regardless of physical condition, intellectual and sensory.

In fact, the social cleavages worsen under treatments that are given to people with special needs including those with partial or profound deafness. This, we believe, is due to the fact that more than one don't knows what attitude to have vis-à-vis those who are called to communicate despite their sensory disabilities.

Deaf culture is one of the social problems that should be addressed for the integration of deaf one hand and on the other hand, a better coexistence between hearing and deaf."

It is in this spirit that the BSEIPH with the support of the Office of Management and Human Resources (OMRH) launched a training of 12 sessions in sign language (from 11 April to Friday 2nd July 2014) to the intention of about thirty public servants working in reception services in 27 public service institutions to facilitate access to these services for deaf-mutes.

Uder Antoine, the General Coordinator of the OMRH stressed that this collaboration between the institution and the BSEIPH clearly expresses the commitment of the Government to engage in the fight against social exclusion in Haiti. This synergy is also part of the administrative reform of that the State started since 2012.

For his part, Gérald Oriol, Jr. stated that it is crucial for the institution to continue to put actions to achieve the goals and said he was determined to strengthen the capacity of agents assigned to the reception services, in order to communicate more easily with the deaf-mute.
