Haiti - Politic : Martelly met President MA Ying-jeou
On the occasion of the 4-day visit to Taiwan, 21 to 24 April 2014, the President Michel Martelly at the head of a large delegation, https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-10969-haiti-diplomacy-official-visit-of-president-martelly-in-taiwan.html ; the Head of State, who was accompanied by the First Lady, Mrs. Sophia Martelly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship, Pierre-Duly Brutus and other officials of the Government of Haiti, received a solemn and warm welcome from President MA Ying-jeou and the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan).

On the occasion of this visit, the Haitian President Michel Martelly and his counterpart MA Ying-jeou held a broad exchange of views on issues of common interest and on the evolution of the situation both regionally and international. The two heads of state reached a broad consensus on the following points :

"1. Bilaterally, the President of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the President of the Republic of Haiti welcomed the good relations between the two countries, especially the dynamism of cooperation in the areas of post-earthquake reconstruction, infrastructure, agriculture, health and education. They also reaffirmed their commitment to intensify this cooperation for the benefit the two peoples.

2. President of the Republic of Haiti thanked the President and the People's Republic of China (Taiwan) for their active solidarity and continued support to the process of reconstruction and development of Haiti. He presented his Taiwanese counterpart the progress made by his administration in the economic and social fields, thanks in particular to the technical and financial partners of the international community, including the Republic of China (Taiwan).

3. The President of the Republic of China (Taiwan) expressed to the President of the Republic of Haiti its deep appreciation for the warm welcome which he was subject during his first visit to Haiti August 13, 2013 and welcomed its host for the remarkable progress in Haiti after the devastating earthquake of 12 January 2010. He also reiterated the commitment of his Government to assist Haiti in its rebuilding efforts and sustainable development.

4. Both representative exchanged in depth views on issues of global order interestingly the two States and reiterated their determination to contribute to the peaceful resolution of disputes.

5. The two leaders reiterated their commitment to the respect of values ​​and democratic principles and welcomed the efforts made by their respective Governments to promote peace, security and stability of their country.

6. The President of the Republic of Haiti welcomed the insightful leadership of his Taiwanese counterpart and praised the important contributions of the Government to improve cross-strait relations, peace in the East China Sea and the promotion of international coordination.

7. Both representatives also discussed the challenges of the moment, in particular the economic crisis and climate change. They welcomed their convergence of views on all these issues and are committed to develop and implement other common measures.

8. The President of the Republic of China (Taiwan) thanked the President of the Republic of Haiti for the constant support of Haiti to Taiwan in the foundations and international bodies. The President of the Republic of Haiti is committed to work to strengthen friendship and solidarity between his country and the Republic of China (Taiwan).

9. Both Heads of State emphasized the crucial role of the private sector in promoting socio-economic development. They welcomed the useful contacts between representatives of the business sectors of the two countries during the visit and have recommended the establishment of a mechanism to promote economic and trade exchanges between the two countries.

10. As a gesture of mutual high regard and their contribution to strengthening relations between the two countries, His Excellency MA Ying-jeou decorated His Excellency Mr. Michel Joseph Martelly of the distinction of the Order of Brilliant Jade and and His Excellency David YL Lin presented to His Excellency Pierre-Duly Brutus the Order of Brilliant Star with Grand Cordon. His Excellency Mr. Michel Joseph Martelly, in turn, decorated His Excellency MA Ying-jeou of the National Order Honor and Merit Grand Cross Gold Plated grade and His Excellency Pierre-Duly Brutus gave to His Excellency David YL LIN the National Honor and Merit Order to the rank Grand Cross Silver plate, in recognition of their contribution to the reconstruction process in Haiti.

11. At the end of his stay, the President of the Republic of Haiti expressed its gratitude to the President and people of the Republic of China (Taiwan) for the warm welcome and generous hospitality that has been reserved to him and his delegation."
