Haiti - Social : False rumor, panic in Port-au-Prince
The Ministry of Communication informs having learned with amazement that a panic caused by a false rumor according to which the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince would be shaken by a strong earthquake in the afternoon of Thursday, May 8, 2014, has caused fear and distress within families and institutions, both private and public of the capital.

Although Haiti is and remains a country of high seismic risk due to the existence of faults that continue to accumulate energy, the Ministry of Communication wishes to remind the entire population that to date, there is no scientific data to accurately predict an earthquake.

While condemning this false earthquake alert, whatever its origin, the Ministry of Communication, on behalf of the Government of the Republic deplores all the wrongs she has caused.

The Ministry of Communication consequently invites the public to be vigilant and cautious in order not to not succumb to panic face these destabilizing rumors, while giving it the irm assurance that the authorized services, including that of the monitoring of the territory and civil protection are permanent standby to intervene if necessary.
