Haiti - Boxing : Haitian-born Canadian Bermane Stiverne, Wins heavyweight world title
Saturday at USC Galen Center, Los Angeles, California, in front of over 4,000 spectators, the Haitian-born Canadian Bermane Stiverne [35] (born 1 November 1978 in Plaine-du-Nord, Haiti), who grew up in Montreal, has achieved what no other boxer of Quebec had done before him, by winning the title of WBC world champion (World Boxing Council) in the queen category heavyweights, acated by Ukrainian Vitali Klitschko, by beating American of Mexican descent, Chris Arreola in the 6th round.

After a beginning of combat rather cautious, Stiverne brought the biggest blows to his opponent in the first round , however, leaving his opponent take the initiative. Chris Arreola dominated the second and third round with a series of combinations that sent Stiverne several times in the ropes. Finally, Stiverne (21 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw) won the 6th recovery, sending Arreola for a first time in the carpet, with a right on the left temple. Arreola rang, managed to get up, but Stiverne greeted him with a barrage of blows which returned Arreola to the ground. The latter returned on his feet with difficulty, but the referee Jack Reiss found that he received enough and stopped the combat, face the unequivocal domination of Stiverne. Arreola recorded his third defeat in 39 combats. A victory won by referee stoppage in the 6th round [2 minutes 02] at the end of the first combat for a world heavyweight title held in the U.S. since 2009.

Stiverne now has an appointment with his mandatory challenger Deontay Wilder, the only American medalist at the Beijing Games in 2008.

"Congratulations to our new world champion Bermane Stiverne !" declared Justin Viard, the Consul General of Haiti in Montreal.
