Haiti - Social : Resumption of repatriations of Haitians in the Bahamas
"The ministry for Immigration took again the arrests and the repatriation of Haitian since Wednesday the 1st September. Procedures that had been suspended because of logistical and humanitarian response to the devastating earthquake in Haiti. It should be noted that the arrests of illegal immigrants from other countries has continued as usual throughout the year", said Jack Thompson, director of immigration.

"134 Haitian will be repatriated in Haiti during this week, which will carry to 906 Haitians the number of repatriated Haitians [...] It is the politic of the Bahamas Government to dissuade any illegal migration in the country, whatever is the origin. Consequently, the Department of Immigration will continue to arrest and repatriate all illegal migrants, independently of their country of origin" said the Director of Immigration who cited the statements of the Minister of Immigration "All persons who are here illegally are in contravention of the laws of The Bahamas, and are advised to return to their country of origin or be subject to apprehension and deportation."
