Haiti - Politic : High level meetings with World Bank
Tuesday, Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, met Sri Mulyani Indrawati, the Director of the World Bank, at the head of a delegation, in order to present her the actions carried out and the prospects of its Government in the areas of reconstruction, housing, energy, transport and discuss the reduction of disbursement procedures, of mechanisms for better coordination in the interventions of the bank in the country and in the support to the private sector involved in the development.

The Head of Government outlined the projections of his government in order to stabilize the macro-economic framework, to achieve 3.6% growth for the year 2013-2014 and to strengthen and develop agribusiness and explain that the government also wants to strengthen energy and small and medium enterprises, by promoting a framework to access to capital.

Within the framework of partnership with the World Bank, Laurent Lamothe called for better coordination of interventions and a reductions of procedures in the areas of energy, transport, taxation. He wished, on behalf of local private firms, better procedures to facilitate their development to support growth and job creation. The Prime Minister also sought the assistance of the World Bank to increase the participation of the private sector and the diaspora in development efforts of their countries.

Wednesday, President Michel Martelly met in turn Ms. Muliani Indrawati, as well as Jorge Calderon Familiar, Vice President for Latin America and the Caribbean. At this meeting it was discussed the new directions of the World Bank, for the coming years. The Head of State welcomed the various changes made within the BM since the arrival of Dr. Kim and hoped that the new strategy for Haiti reflects the priorities of the Government, particularly in the fields of education, agriculture, environment and energy insisting on the respect of national institutions, he said to be in favor of a strong coordination between development agencies intervening in Haiti.
