Haiti - Justice : The mandates of twenty judges renewed
While the judicial system is under threat of a 24-hour strike on 14 July, in the 18 jurisdictions of the country, to the call of the National Association of Haitian Magistrates (ANAMAH), which require in particular the payment of 20 months salary not paid under the previous government (between December 2007 and December 2009) and the rapid renewal of mandates of judges came to an end, whose the slowness partially paralyzed the functioning of the judiciary; the Ministry of Justice announced to the general public and judicial actors in particular that conjunction with the Superior Council of the Judiciary (conjunction with the Superior Council of the Judiciary (the mandates a twenty judges through the various jurisdictions of the country have been renewed.

This decision will allow the continuation of numerousinstruction files and a new reduction in prolonged pretrial detention.

Within the jurisdiction of the Court of First Instance (CFI) of Port-au-Prince, the terms of five judges and magistrates were renewed. They are : Me Etienne Chavannes, Me Brédy Fabien, Me Constant Jacques Hermon, Me Denise Moise Papillon, Me Bernard St Vil and Me Mathieu Chanlatte.

To the Tribunal of First Instance of Cap-Haitien, the mandates of e. Henri Claude Adhémar and Me. Emania B. Fatal, both judges and Investigating Judges were renewed. While at TPI of Petit-Goâve, the terms of two other judges are renewed. They are Me. Androgène Cassamajor and Me. Grégorie Bélance.

In almost every other TPI of country, judges whose terms of office came to an end were able to obtaining the renewal as desired. They are : Elorin Frantz (Jacmel), Gelin Romel (Port-de-Paix), Guerson Lespérance (Anse-à-Veau), Jean Noël (Grand-Rivière du Nord), Leccius Legène (Coteaux), Rubbin Sylvestre (Miragoane) and Me. Denis Pierre Michel (Gonaïves).

In parallel the mandates of judges to the Court of Appeal, were also renewed. They are Me. Georges Dukerne Auguste to the Court of Appeal of Hinche and Me René Sylvestre to the Court of Appeal of Gonaïves.

Furthermore, concerning the arrears of salary, Dilia Lemaire Advisor to the CSPJ indicated that steps were underway to release the funds to solve this problem.
