Haiti - Politic : U.S bill to assess progress in Haiti 11/07/2014 11:16:39 The bill was passed through unanimous consent agreements before the Senate and will be forwarded to the House for further action. "S. 1104 would require the Department of State to report to the Congress on the status of recovery and development efforts in Haiti following the 2010 earthquake in that country. The bill would require one report in calendar year 2014 and annual reports through calendar year 2017. It also would require the department to develop a three-year strategy to promote economic development and build professional and responsive governmental institutions in Haiti, and provide quarterly briefings to the Congress on the implementation of that strategy. Based on information from the department, CBO (Congressional Budget Office) estimates that implementing those requirements would cost less than $500,000 each year and total $1 million over the 2015-2019 period, assuming the availability of appropriated funds."
