Haiti - Politic : Visit of President Martelly in the City of Ouanaminthe
Thursday, the President Michel Martelly, accompanied by the Ambassador of Spain in Haiti, Manuel Ruigomez, of Benito Dumay, the Director General of the National Directorate of Water Supply and Sanitation (DINEPA) and a representative of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), in the presence of, among others Philippe Cinéas, State Secretary of State for Public Works, Transport and Communications (TPTC), the Mayor of the Commune, Rony Pierre, of Parliamentarians, of Departmental Delegate Northeast... proceeded among other things, to the inauguration of the supply system water of the town of Ouanaminthe.

These rehabilitation and extension works of system of drinking water of the city of Ouanaminthe, which started in April 2011, include two parts: firstly, the elevation of a 1,100 m3-water tower 15 meters on a metal structure, a pump station with three pumps and three wells for a total flow rate of 45 liters/second, a pulse water pipe of 1,800 meters and a warehouse; secondly a 43km-home distribution network and 8 kiosks water fountains.



President Martelly has highlighted the progress made by the Administration in order to provide a response to problems related to the issue of water and sanitation and thanked, on behalf of the Haitian people and in his own name, the Spanish Government and the Inter-American Development Bank, which enabled through DINEPA, the realization of this project at a cost of $9 million, urging Communities, the team of New Technique Operative Centre of Ouanaminthe and the people to work in the sustainability of this new system.

In addition, the President Martelly in the presence of Marie Mimose Félix, Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister, in charge of promoting the Peasantry, the Mayor of the city, of parliamentarians and of departmental delegate, participated in a gathering of farmers at the payground of Ouanaminthe.

Before thousands of peasants, the Head of State reiterated its commitment to the population of North East and exchanged with the participants in this gathering organized as part of "Kore Peyizan" program explaining the purpose of this program, which aims to fight against poverty in the country, noting that 11,000 seed kits, 1,050 tool kits, 800 fishing kits were distributed and that 10 Communes out of 13 were affected in this department by the "Kore Peyizan" program.

President's visit ended at the Safe houese for women and girls victims of violence in the presence of several representatives of women's associations and Yanick Mézile, Minister for the Status and Rights of Women (MCFDF) which proceeded to the inauguration of the first Safe house of North East.



Minister Mézile stressed that the House participated in the commitment of the Government Martelly/Lamothe in the signature of various international agreements against the violence whose women are subject, such as the Belem Do Para Convention and praised the Government, of his Director General and partners of MCFDF, which contributed to the success of this project designed in 2012.

The Head of the State, which was concerned with the issue of gender violence, reiterated the determination of his administration to ensure respect for the individual in Haiti.
