Haiti - Politic : 480M Euros from the EU for Haiti (2014-2020)
This week, as part of a workshop in the presence of the Ambassador of the EU Javier Niño Pérez and Head of Cooperation João Santana, experts from the European Union presented the results of the evaluation of the cooperation program in Haiti for the period 2008-2012.

This assessment highlighted the results in several areas. Among them we can mention the education, with the renovation and reconstruction of school facilities in several departments of the country, including the fundamental schools of pedagogical application (EFACAP) in Central, North, West and South.

In food security interventions have significantly improved access and availability of information needed for decision making, thanks in part to the strengthening of the National Centre of geo-spatial information (CNIGS). A significant increase in irrigation works, the availability of agricultural inputs, the increased importance of different sectors including mango and avocado, have helped improve the nutritional status of the population, what's is also confirmed by the latest data from the National Center for Food Security (CNSA).

The rehabilitation of several roads, including National road # 3, have helped boost economic and trade activities in the regions, facilitating access to basic social services.

The supports to local authorities have helped boost decision-making mechanisms at the level of communities, through the elaboration of development plans and local investment and improvement of local tax systems.

Significant progress has also been noted in terms of democratic governance through greater synergy between local authorities and civil society and the strengthening of Grassroots Community Organizations (OCB).

"Certainly, elements of improvement can and should be brought, including the strengthening of the state, its capacity and its various institutions, to increase the strategic dimension of development. The budgetary support program that we started there is no longer with the Haitian government and the National Indicative Programme for the next 7 years, which will be signed on Friday, will reflect these necessary taken into account," said Javier Niño Pérez.

To this end, Herman Van Rompuy, the President of the Council of the European Union, will pay an official visit to Haiti from July 18 to 20. During his stay, Mr Rompuy will meet with President Michel Martelly, Prime Minister Lamothe, the Senate President Simon Dieuseul Desras and other elected officials.

Friday he will meet President Martelly before participating in the late afternoon at the signing ceremony of the National Indicative Programme 2014-2020, of an amount of €420 million, a program that emphasizes four areas: roads, education, food security and the reform of public administration. In the evening he will participate to a official dinner with President Michel Martelly.

It is good to remember that 90% of European aid transits through the Government of Haiti and as likes to remind it Javier Nino Perez "We are not here to tell Haitians what to do nor at the political level or economically. We are here to listen, to help, to receive notices of Haitians on the Haitian reality and on that of cooperation with the EU."

Saturday morning, the President of the Council of the European Union, will inaugurate the EU delegation office and after a working lunch with EU Ambassadors accredited in Haiti, he will visit several projects funded by the EU.
