Haiti - Economy : New monitoring mission of the IMF on the economic situation of Haiti
A delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), led by the Head of the IMF mission to Haiti, Gabriel DiBella, within the framework of monitoring of the evolution of the economies of Member countries (4 to 8 August) had a first working session Monday with Marie Carmelle Jean-Marie, Minister of Economy and Finance. During this session was undertaken a review of growth perspectives and the implementation of macroeconomic policy measures to strengthen the results.

Recall that at the end of his mission in May 2014, the delegation of Mr. DiBella had expressed satisfaction with the management of public finances in the first half of the 2013-2014 fiscal year with "the pursuit of growth in gross domestic product in line with expectations" and a "low and stable inflation". "Considerable progress has been noted in the implementation of measures to improve the efficiency of public investment and the management of the public debt, as well as to strengthen the consolidation of the budgetary policy, in particular the establishment of the Single Treasury Account (CUT)" https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-11230-haiti-economy-imf-made-a-positive-assessment-of-the-haitian-economy.html

The IMF delegation, which had welcomed the approval of the revised 2013-2014 budget, "stated the need to gradually reduce the budget deficit and then allow a gradual easing of monetary policy; a lower deficit that can help maintain a buffer of adequate international reserves, a sort of shock to withstand unexpected shocks."

As part of this new mission, the delegation will take stock of the implementation of structural reforms, but also have meetings with the highest political and monetary authorities of the country to make an inventory of the Haitian economy, of the growth of credit and deposits.
