Haiti - Education : Towards the improvement of academic performance of students
Beyond the 12 measures announced by Nesmy Manigat, the Minister of Education, for a reframing of the education system https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-11781-haiti-education-exam-results-disappointing-the-minister-manigat-announced-a-package-of-measures.html the technical directorates of the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP), are busy finalizing proposals in order to improve the academic performance of students.

In this context, the DEF wants to pay special attention to the process of education, especially in the first cycle of the fundamental school. These are four years of basic training of primary importance for young children, which will be subject to the end, to a formative evaluation, just to test the knowledge and weaknesses in certain subjects. This operation, which will take place in schools networked, will be thinking and undertaken in collaboration with the School District Offices (BDS).

These tests will be conducted with the utmost rigor despite their informal nature, supported Volvick Germain Charles, Director of basic education. This formative evaluation process will be resumed at the end of the eighth year before the official exams of the 9th fundamental year, which should complete the 9 years of training for the three cycles of the fundamental.

With respect to exams, in their present form, DEF is concerned about the departmental disparity in performance in certain disciplines. According to Mr. Charles, this disparity would have for cause the manner of teach. Following this observation, with the support of National Bureau of State Examinations (BUNEXE) some examination papers will be subjected to expert analysis to measure items, study the weaknesses in term of conception and expected answers. The results obtained could guide decisions relating to the distribution of teachers, which will be made according to the needs by department.

In support of this project to make the students more performing, the DEF proposes, in conjunction with the Directorate of Training and Development (DFP), to strengthen from this year, the process of teacher training. Which should facilitate their work in the classrooms where it is imperative to provide training focusing on literacy and numeracy 1st fundamental cycle.

DEF plans to equip with a School Success Plan (PRS), ie a plan to deconstruct academic failure, which will appeal to the collaboration of school directors, teachers, inspectors, parents and in a wider target the whole society.

DEF also consider act on other parameters as part of the search of this academic success. With the Directorate of Curriculum and Quality (QCD), it intends to give greater consideration to approved textbooks, to the compliance of guide of educational progress, to the work of the Academic Advisor and of supervision of schools.
