Haiti - NOTICE : Guy Alexander Award, call for candidates 01/09/2014 11:24:38
Guy Alexander Award (Le Prix Guy Alexandre) on the Haitian-Dominican relations, is an annual competition organized by C3 Editions. It is open for Haitian or foreign candidates who want to publish in the branches and disciplines of the humanities and social sciences: law, journalism, history, economics, ethnology, anthropology, geography, sociology, political science, international relations among others.
Awarding of the Prize :
Guy Alexander Award will be awarded by a jury composed of 7 members of researchers, specialists in Haitiano-Dominican relations and intellectuals. It consists of crown a research work reported by its relevance or academic excellence;
The award will be given only if the quality of texts admitted meet the expectations.
The winner will receive a bonus of 100,000 gourdes. In addition, the text or the award-winning manuscript will be published in 1,000 copies by C3 Editions. The author will receive 300 copies. After publication, the publishers will participate in the promotion of the book and encourage its spread in Haiti, in the Dominican Republic and other countries.
Competition objectives :
- encourage the publication of more and more high-quality books on the Haitiano-Dominican relationship ;
promote research and production of new knowledge jointly on Haiti and the Dominican Republic ;
- stimulate discussion, reflection and new questions about the present and the future of the two independent states of the Island ;
- Contribute to bringing the two societies and to the solidarity between the two peoples through the dissemination of books and texts of common interest.
Eligibility :
Guy Alexander Award is open to all researchers and intellectuals residing in Haiti, the Dominican Republic and outside the island.
- The manuscript should be in Creole, French or Spanish ;
- The manuscript must not have been published previously, in one form or language whatsoever ;
- The script can be a length of 150 to 250 pages (8 x 11), including photographs, prints, paintings, illustrations and bibliography.
- Manuscripts should be submitted in Word format (suggested font is Times New Roman, 12 points, at one and one half; footnotes pages maintain the size of 10 points.
Conditions for participation :
- fill a registration form in which, moreover, he / she means that he / she is the author of the manuscript submitted for the contest;
- present the elements of a folder with including personal identification documents and the affiliated institution (if applicable);
- will deposit the manuscript in three hard copies and an electronic version PDF support, and an abstract not exceeding 100 words.
It is recognized that both authors may submit a collective effort to compete.
- For any case of plagiarism, the author alone is responsible.
Calendar :
- Entries will be received between August 26, 2014 to January 20, 2015 in the premises of C3 Editions, 16, rue Rigaud, Petion-Ville, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays of each week.
- The winning manuscript and results in general will be announced in May 2015 by public proclamation.
