Haiti - Health : Ebola, the Ministry of Health denies rumors 03/09/2014 10:26:01 Dr. Florence D. Guillaume, the Minister of Health recalled that "according to the World Health Organization (WHO), the Ebola virus is transmitted to humans from wild animals including bats or monkeys. In addition, transmission is possible with sick people through direct contacts with blood or body fluids. Currently there is no vaccine or treatment with specific license against Ebola virus. In an effort to protect the Haitian population, the MSPP recommend once again the international agency to suspend any rotation of members in countries where cases of Ebola haemorrhagic fever have been shown including Guinea (607 cases, 406 victims), Sierra Leone (910 cases, 292 victims), Liberia (1,082 cases, 624 victims and Nigeria (16 cases, 5 victims) [Figure WHO dated 20 August 2014]. The Ministry of Public Health and Population reiterates once more its commitment to the Haitian people and condemns all forms of rumor, which can lead to panic the population by making them believe that there are other mode of transmission of Ebola virus than those specified by WHO."
