Haiti - Security : Prison Break in Cap-Haitien
Saturday around 2:00 am, 5 inmates escaped from the Prison of Cap-aitien, after sawing the bars of their cell. One of those escapee James Lolo (44), sentenced to life for kidnapping, was shot and wounded by a guard and hospitalized a second escapee, Bernard B Benson, (32), sentenced to life for murder, was found hidden in a water tank of the prison and back in his cell, the 3 others managed to flee.

According to Antoine Monest, the Director of the Police Department, the three escaped prisoners are : Antoine Bénel, sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, Célo Marcelin, awaiting trial for illegal possession of firearms and Fritz Béliard, to life imprisonment for kidnapping and are actively sought.

The Director Monest indicated that an unidentified accomplice had provided a saw to inmates, adding that an officer of the National Penitentiary Administration (APENA), responsible for monitoring, among others of their cells, was put in isolation, suspected of being involved in the escape, pending the outcome of the investigation.

He assured that measures will be taken to prevent such an incident from happening again.

The Principal Commissioner, Monès Augustus, Departmental Director of the Police in the North (in office since last May), confirmed the escape of 3 prisoners, ensuring that the police were on their tracks...
