Haiti - Justice : Reopening of the courts for the new judicial year (2014-2015)
Monday, at the School of Magistrates, the President Michel Martelly, in the presence of Me Arnel Alexis Joseph, President of the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSPJ), of Me Jean Renel Sanon, the Minister of Justice, Me Carlos Hercules Dean of the Bar Association, of Parliamentarians, of judges sitting and standing of courts and tribunals of the Republic, representatives of organizations of the defense and promotion of human rights and judicial staff... participated in the solemn audience for the resumption of judicial work.

It's Me Arnel Alexis Joseph, who proceeded to the reopening of the courts for the new judicial year (2014-2015) an opportunity to remember that for the past judicial year, the Court of Cassation had treated 112 urgent cases and 85 normal cases; the 5 Courts of Appeal of the country have treated 370 cases and issued 320 final judgment, as to the courts of first instance they treated 8.584 affairs and rendered 8,911 decisions in total.

For this new judicial year, the Executive intends to redefine its action in relation to the judiciary power and to the strengthening of the rule of law, one of its five priorities "Answers and solutions we have proposed and that we propose in the context of strengthening the rule of law must respect and ensure both the principles constitutional of independence of the Judiciary, the establishment of control mechanisms provide the same guarantee the independence of powers," declared the Head of State who recalled that "The rule of law constitutes one of the pillars of my Administration and Justice is at the heart of the concerns of the Haitian people."

The President Martelly has extended his sincere thanks to the various national and international partners for their support to the Haitian judicial institutions. "Thanks to their contribution and support we have been able to improve the infrastructures, hosting our tribunals and Courts that were either non-existent until then either in poor condition or destroyed by the earthquake of January 2010 [...]" underlining that the commitment of all was needed to build a new culture of accountability and rebuilding of social ties.

"Through thick and thin, we could move forward and we will move forward," he assured, for his part, Me Arnel Alexis Joseph, indicating that the multiple efforts in 2014 will continue in this new judicial year. He also expressed his satisfaction stressing that the Judicial Power fully enjoyed its autonomy under the Administration Martelly.
