Haiti - Politic : The Ministry of Education wants to strengthen trade union structures
This week, during a meeting between Nesmy Manigat, the Minister of Education and leaders of the Haitian platform of educational organizations, chaired by Professor Josué Mérilien of the National Union of Haitian Normaliens (UNNOH), the Minister thanked the teachers' unions for their support to the ongoing reforms in the sector and has announced a set of support fot the Union platforms in order to contribute to their reinforcement.

Each provided an update on the progress made to date and the next steps for improving the teaching condition.

Recognizing that strong unions can help solve some of the problems affecting the sector, the Minister Manigat announced the government's decision to accompany the trade union platforms. Thus, through the Ministry, a bus was offered to each platform in order to facilitate their work. Of office equipment, computer and other will also be available shortly. "These actions only aims the capacity building of these structures, struggling to improve the quality of education and the teaching profession in the country. Two points for which the ministry continues to increase efforts," affirmed Nesmy Manigat.

Speaking on behalf of the Haitian platform of educational organizations, Professor Josué Mérilien welcomed the willingness and determination of the Minister for the education sector move forward. "But beyond that, we must be mobilized to defend the cause of the teacher," stressed the coordinator of the UNNOH who welcomed this support in equipment, stating "that this could not in any way affect the fight engaged in the labor sector."
