Haiti - Politic : New bilateral commitments with Venezuela
The Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Rafael Ramirez met in Port-au-Prince, on 28 and 29 October as part of the official visit of a Venezuelan delegation signed at the end of this 24-hour visit a joint commitment that allows both countries to focus their cooperation in the fields of development identified as priorities as electrical energy, agriculture, education, infrastructure, food security and social programs in order to improve the living conditions of the two populations.

In this document, the leaders of the two countries commit to :

"a) Establish a mechanism for regular dialogue on regional and global affairs, in order to develop synergy in the position of the two countries in international meetings;

b) support each other in discussions and deliberations in regional and international bodies on issues of interest to both States;

c) Maintain a permanent contact on the development of bilateral cooperation, particularly with regard to the progress of work done in Haiti with the solidarity and cooperation of the Venezuelan Party;

d) Continue discussions on technical and financial aspects of the bilateral partnership and evaluate the process of implementation of the agreed commitments;

e) To reaffirm the strategic importance of the Petrocaribe agreement as a tool to strengthen unity among the countries of the region;

f) Take initiatives likely to channel development efforts towards priority sectors of cooperation, particularly energy infrastructure;

g) Search a compromise on long-term external debt owed ​​by Haiti to Venezuela and agree on a mechanism for the Republic of Haiti to begin the refund process without affecting its development;

h) To continue the bilateral dialogue in the direction of finding solutions to the problems of development recorded in the two countries;

i) initiate as soon as possible the implementation of the project "Viviandas en BowenfieldI" https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-11705-haiti-reconstruction-green-light-for-the-mega-real-estate-project-in-bowenfield.html based on availability of funds;

j) Carry out joint activities on the territory of both countries as part of the celebrations of Commemoration of bicentenary of the meeting Pétion-Bolivar, in 2015;

k) Increase of 16% up to 30% the amount levied on the cash portion of the oil bill to increase the funds available for the financing of projects of the Joint Company;

l) Increase the storage capacity of fuel of three power plants and consider fuel transportation by sea;

m) To facilitate the conclusion of specific bilateral arrangements for the implementation of development projects submitted by the Haitian Government in the fields of energy, agriculture, tourism, environment, etc. ;


n) Develop and implement joint actions in order to facilitate and strengthen trade activities between the two countries in accordance with the spirit of the Petrocaribe Economic Area (ZEP)."
