Haiti - Education : New technical and vocational academic year
Key executives of the National Vocational Training Institute (INFP) and about 60 responsibles of public vocational training centers, held a major workshop in order to take stock on the planning of the new technical and vocational academic year that begins Monday, November 3, 2014. Planning of the academic year, the draft Act dealing with the reorganization and modernization of the sector of vocational training, educational and administrative management of the centers and continuous training of trainers were at the center of exchanges of this meeting.

Ms. Marina Gourgue, Secretary of State for Vocational Training, who chaired the workshop, recalled the efforts made by the administration Martelly-Lamothe for the advancement of the sector of the Technical and Vocational Education (FTP) through the establishment and rehabilitation of public facilities, citing various projects under construction in Milot (North), Gable (North), Miragoâne (Nippes) Mirebalais (Centre), Hinche (Centre), Petion-Ville (West) and Côtes-de-Fer (Southeast) as well as those in rehabilitation : the Centres of Jérémie (Grand Anse) of Jacmel (Southeast) and Cap-Haitien (North). Some of these projects are nearing completion and some buildings are ready for the inauguration.

Mervil Guillaumette, the Director General of the INFP encouraged principals, the pedagogical responsibles and the chiefs of work of the centers to work towards the improvement of the quality of management of public centers which should provide another picture, he also stressed the importance of FTP, in society, in particular the opportunities it offers to the country and learners. He also describes the approaches aimed at strengthening cooperation with partners from France, Colombia, Barbados and the Caribbean countries of the Commonwealth.

For his part, Charlorin Cajuste, the Director of Planning to INFP, shared with the audience the main lines of intervention
of the policy and national strategy for vocational training on, among other things, the increase in the supply of vocational training, the National Qualifications Framework, the governance of the Professional and Technical Training, the Promotion of the integration of school leavers. In addition, he presented the summary of the essential lines of the draft law on the FTP which proposes the creation of a National Council for Technical and Vocational Training (CNFTP), the Centre for Research and Professional Development (CRDP), the National qualifications Framework and the establishment of a national register of institutions operating in the sector, the creation of a national directory of degrees and diplomas and the establishment of a certification system of titles and diplomas of the FTP.

Note that in the draft Act, that want to be renovator, establishes the distinction between the institutions of FTP of post-secondary or higher level, of secondary level, and institutions of FTP properly so called and the technical education high schools.

Pending the commissioning of new centers, remember that INFP identifies 17 public and 22 non-public centers operating through grants from the state and 131 other centers having obtained an operating license.
