Haiti - Health : Recruitment of residents in hospitals, based on merit
Friday, Dr. Florence Duperval Guillaume, Minister of Public Health and Population (MSPP) and Nesmy Manigat, Minister of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP) announced that now, it is the principle of merit that will lead to the selection of candidates for hospital residence, following an annual competition organized by the two ministries. A minimum score of 50 out of 100 is required to succeed.

"This measure should help to better manage access to the hospital residence offlow of students from the faculties of medicine," stressed Ms. Duperval "Given the limited number of places available in university hospitals [180 seats] and the necessary support to be given by the monitors, it was necessary to regulate and give place to the deserving. Until other criteria are added, this principle will be used for the recruitment of applicants candidates [...]

Moreover, it is on this basis that 180 over 300 medical graduates, postulating in hospital residency for specialization will be recruited this year."

Minister Guillaume said that 136 physicians have already been selected in the first time through this competition with a score between 50 and 77 out of 100.

MSPP and MENFP, now intend to put some order in the Health sector in Haiti. This is part of the perspective of having in 2023, trained medical doctors in Haiti, with degrees in international standard. "Medical doctors who are able to be certified in any country in the world," clarified Minister Guillaume.

The Minister Manigat emphasized on the necessity for the Haitian government "to produce professionals at all levels, including in health, an area likely to be useful in all corners of the world."
