The President Michel Martelly, welcomed the official designation of the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean as Secretary General of the International Francophone Organisation (OIF). This decision was taken on Sunday 30 November during the fifteenth Francophonie Summit which was held in Dakar (Senegal) by the Heads of State and Government members of the OIF.

"The Head of State, on behalf of the Haitian people, warmly congratulates Ms Jean for this achievement." He also stresses the "outstanding commitment to this Haitian-Canadian with youth and women, as well as her determination to promote the use of the French language and to strengthen economic action in the French-speaking space [...]

Ms. Jean's accession to the head of the OIF [succeeding Abdou Diouf] is a victory for our beloved Haiti."

The Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, also welcomes the appointment of Michaëlle Jean, recalling that "it is the first woman and personality outside Africa to access the General Secretariat of this prestigious organization promoting the French language and cultural diversity.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister, on behalf of his Government wishes to congratulate this remarkable woman born in the land of Haiti, which has always expressed her solidarity with the people of Haiti."
