In his speech, Wilson Laleau, the Minister of Trade and Industry, said it was one of the most promising sectors of the modern economy, for which Haiti has an extraordinary natural potential. "The bio economy is synergistic and inclusive [...] and could serve as driving force for the creation of high value jobs in rural areas." The Minister recalled that it has a Haitian peasant science "How many generations of Haitians were not and are still not treated by plants ?" he wondered, recognizing that this peasant science has yet saved many lives and even today all drugs on the market are not always trustworthy. "The bio economy will help find possible solutions for the enhancement of national agricultural production through processing and development of value chains," the minister added, noting that this sector will allow "to include Haiti in the dynamics of world trade and allow it to capture significant market share internationally." Thomas Jacques, Minister of Agriculture indicated that his ministry encouraged the development of biotechnology oriented companies and a new class of agro-entrepreneurs in the country "Over the past 30 months, the MARNDR has attracted private investment for a better development of Haitian agriculture," recalling that there are few experiences that have never been regulated by the state, but "today we want to strengthen this promising sector." Note that to support this sector of the bio-economy, MCI has already signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the State University of Haiti (UEH) for the management of Micro Industrial Park turned towards biotechnology whose implementation is envisaged on the National Laboratory site, in Tamarinier, Bon repos.
