Haiti - Politic : Evans Paul satisfied with the agreement, the opposition not at all
If the new Prime Minister Evans Paul, awaiting ratification, welcomes the signing of the Agreement of 29 December https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-12833-haiti-flash-the-mandates-of-deputies-and-senators-extended-under-conditions.html and confirms his role in the discussions that led to the signing by the three powers. For their part, the opposition senators member of the G6, reject the agreement, which according to them, engages only the President of the Senate and not the opposition, criticizing among other things, that the document signed, differs from one who had obtained their approval.

The political class is also divided, some welcome the agreement, while others denounce the violation of the Constitution. Gabriel Fortuné, one of the member of Presidential Consultative Commission (CCP) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-12638-haiti-politic-investiture-of-members-of-the-presidential-consultative-commission.html qualifies as an act "indecent" the extension of the mandates of deputies and senators beyond their Constitutional mandate.

Less than 24 hours after the signing of this agreement, at the call of the "Table de concertation", comprising among others the "Patriotic Movement for Democratic Opposition" (MOPOD) and the new political platform "Pitit Dessalin" headed by Senator Moïse Jean-Charles, the opposition took again the street, convinced that the executive is at an end. Protesters in the presence of several opposition leaders including Tunerb Delpé, Assad Volcy and Serge Jean Louis, denounced this agreement and demanded the resignation of the Head of State. A demonstration that ended as always by clashes with members of the Body for Intervention and Maintenance of Order (CIMO), before being dispersed by tear gas. Upcoming events, according the radical opposition schedule on 1 and 2 January 2015 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-12795-haiti-politic-6-demonstration-to-spoil-the-holiday-season.html

Serge Jean Louis, Secretary of MOPOD steering committee, said that this agreement can not in any way solve the current crisis indicating that the MOPOD was ready to ensure the succession of the power, after the resignation of the President of the Republic, stating that MOPOD will imely communicate the identity of persons who take the relay.

For Assad Volcy, spokesman of the platform "Piti Desalin" this agreement does not concern them.

For his part, Senator of the opposition, Pierre Francky Exius (member of the G6) estimates that Me Anel Alexis Joseph, the President of the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSPJ), was not competent to sign this agreement, so that he should have resigned, according to the recommendations of the CCP https://www.haitilibre.com/docs/Rapport-Final-de-La-Commission-Consultative-Presidentielle.pdf . In addition, he considers that in the agenda of the convocation to the extraordinary, the demands of the executive are excessive.

"2. The Head of State, pursuant to Articles 101 and 105 of the Constitution, convenes the Legislative Body to extraordinary for:

2.1. Vote on the amendments to the electoral law before 12 January 2015;

2.2. Ratify the general policy statement of the consensus Government resulting from the negotiations before 12 January 2015;

2.3. Vote all amending budget;

2.4. Ratifying the treaties and international agreements and vote all the bills mentioned in the convening menu, including the bill creating and organizing the National Education Fund;

2.5. Analyze and verify the reports of the Superior Court of Auditors and Administrative Disputes (CSC / CA) of all Great Commis of the State requesting discharge of their management in Parliament;

2.6. Speak and declare the necessity of concur to a constitutional amendment."

At 12 day of expiry of a mission that many describe as impossible, the situation is likely to continue to be tense and unpredictable in Haiti.
