The Head of State first attended the traditional Te Deum at St. Charles Borromeo Cathedral of the City of Independence, during which the Mgr. Yves-Marie Péan wished Haitians "a year 2015 of constructive dialogue, consensus, national reconciliation..." The President Martelly then went at the monument of Emperor Jean-Jacques Dessalines and Independence hero to deposit a wreath of flowers in memory of our ancestors and to officially rise the Flag. "We missed a lot of opportunities to consolidate the gains that have left us our ancestors. We lost too much time... That's what makes, among others, we walk backwards in many areas...
