Haiti - Diplomacy : Message from the Ambassador of Haiti in Mexico
In that 5th anniversary of the earthquake of January 12, 2010, the Embassy of Haiti in Mexico wishes to join in a note to the duty of memory, who commands to all children of the country, to keep alive, in a way or another, the flame of their memory.

Note from the Ambassador of Haiti in Mexico Guy G. Lamothe :
"'The memory of happiness is no longer happiness, but the memory of the pain is still pain' (Lord Byron)

Already five years have passed since descended the blind horror of 12 January 2010 on our country and ourselves. Five years that have failed to mitigate or even erase in the Haitian collective memory the pain of so many lives cut short and the immense damage recorded in the space of a few seconds.

On this sad anniversary, the Embassy of Haiti in Mexico, wants to join to the duty of memory, who commands to all children of the country, to keep alive, in a way or another, the flame of their memory.

Beyond affiliations in diversity and particularly in the context of the current political crisis in Haiti, the Embassy considers imperative to invite fellow of Haiti and the Diaspora to unite by thought and heart to a harmonization of the respective interests, to the benefit of the Nation.

That the spontaneous and profound solidarity that emerged in these hours of distress is a source of inspiration to all who believe their personal interests incompatible with those of their Haitian brothers. When the country was on his knees, we all worked together to make the country over. Today, standing, we must all continue to give us a hand shake hands for the reconstruction and progress of our beloved Haiti.

The Embassy, on behalf of the Haitian government also wishes to reiterate the thanks to all countries and peoples who rushed to the bedside of Haiti in these times of suffering. Special thanks to Mexico, which in a natural impulse accompanied Haiti, not only in the urgency of the aftermath of the tragedy, but also in the long rebuilding process. After welcoming on its territory, many of our compatriots who are building a new life or study, Mexico has in fact largely boosted its cooperation with Haiti.

Hoping that this call for unity, harmony and conviviality will have the appropriate patriotic echo, the Embassy of Haiti in Mexico took the opportunity to respectfully salute the memory of the fallen and show its deepest sympathies to all those still inconsolable for the tragic loss of their loved ones."
