Haiti - Social : Alexandre's father regrets that politics takes precedence over social
"The damage and victims of torrential rains in Port-au-Prince were largely predictable, considering the conditions of existence of the homeless, living in poverty the most complete. Since the earthquake, more than eight months have passed and despite the activities of humanitarian organizations, it seems that Haiti is falling into oblivion", said MISNA (International Missionary News Agency) Father Hans Alexandre, secretary of the bishops' conference, now assembled in Miami to discuss reconstruction with international Catholic leaders.

Following an initial impetus of solidarity and many promises, "the disruption remains within international NGOs: they are either very numerous in certain neighborhoods or completely absent in others" said the priest in Haiti.

The situation of disaster, which amounted to over one million in the only area of Port-au-Prince, also seems less and less interested the local political class, engaged in the preparation of the electoral campaign, which started on Monday "Again, it is politics that prevails over the social" lamented the father Alexandre, "and at the current state, I doubt that many people move up the polls to vote. And it very probable, that those which will vote, will not be able to express an entirely free vote". Recalling that the offices of Operations Centres and checks (Centres d'opérations et de vérifications COV), responsible for revising the electoral rolls in the 10 departments of the country since the earthquake of 12 January, are open for several days but, according to testimony reported by the local press affluence it would be rather low.
