Haiti - Economy : The APCH issued an Ultimatum to the Government
The Association of Owners and Drivers of Haiti (APCH) issued a 8-days ultimatum to the Government from Friday, for it proceeds to a decrease in prices of petroleum products in the country, to reflect the continuing decline in the price of oil on the international market, which is today about 45 dollars (NY). Otherwise, the APCH threat to begin an indefinite strike in public transport, until satisfaction of its claims.

Note that the price of gasoline gallon in Haiti is set for October 10, 2014 : to 215.00 gourdes, the diesel to 177.00 gourdes and the erosene (white gas, widely used by households) to 171.00 gourdes https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-12238-haiti-notice-painful-increases-in-fuel-prices.html

Recall that before the start of the fall in oil prices on the international market, the price of fuel in our Dominican neighbors were for example 20% more for gasoline and 15% more for diesel https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-11491-haiti-economy-towards-an-upward-revision-in-fuel-prices.html . The Dominican Republic adjusting fuel prices every week, upwards or downwards for consumers, today the situation is reversed, the price of fuel has become cheaper for our neighbors which thus benefits from the oil price collapse.

Even taking into account of the slight difference in exchange rates between the gourde and a slightly stronger Dominican pesos (1Gde = 0.96 pesos) rices speak for themselves. Price per gallon in the Dominican Republic (23 January 2015) Gasolina Premium, 197 pesos; Gasolina Regular: 174.10 pesos; Diesel Premium: 163.00 pesos; Diesel Regular: 154.90 pesos and Kerosene: 138.70 pesos.

It is good to remember that the Dominican economy whose the GDP is is over 10 times that of Haiti, does not have to confront the same economic challenges that Haiti, that subsidizes fuel, and thus the consumers can benefit more easily of lower prices of petroleum products.
