Haiti - Security : Over 3,000 Haitians arrested and repatriated in 48 hours 26/01/2015 09:48:35 According to Brigadier General Nelson Peguero Paredes, who commands the Western Regional police, the undocumented Haitians were crossing the municipal district of Las Zanjas, where troops followed them and finally arrested in the community of El Coco (district of Yaque, municipality Bohechio). The arrest and repatriation were led by the First Police Lieutenant Ramon Fabian Mars. Since early January, the number of our compatriots who are trying to go to the Dominican territory illegally continues to increase in a disturbing way, from 500 daily earlier this month to more than 1,500 per day the last 48 hours for a total of more than 25,000 Haitians during this period. A number that could far exceed 30,000 by the end of the month if the trend continues... Note that beyond those intercepted an unknown number of Haitians manage to pass through the Dominican monitoring system, which is increasingly visible in the capital Santo Domingo, where the tension rises within the Dominican population who does not see favorably what it describes as a "peaceful invasion"... the risk of ethnic clashes are not be ruled out, if the flow of migrants is not decreasing.
