Haiti - Dominican Republic : A security guard wounded at least 5 Haitians
Monday morning, at least 5 Haitian workers working on the construction site of the hospital Darío Contreras, have been wounded by buckshot, when a security employee fired on them, while engineers proceeded to a workforce reduction (350 to 100), the hospital entering into a finishing phase.

According to the Haitian version the engineers wanted to pay less days than expected, what created a situation of tension and it is during their claim that the security guard opened fire on them (with buckshot) wounding at least 5 Haitian workers. Among those identified : Yoselen Muluis, Delice Widlais, Jumeil Joseph, Ezequiel Olelouse and worker another named Michel.

Representatives of the Supervision Office of State Engineers (OISOE), denied this version, saying that the Haitians were angry because of the reduction of workers and they threatened engineers with their tools, which would have caused the intervention of the security agent.

The wounded surrounded by more than a hundred of their compatriots, refused to be taken to a establishment for treatment for about 2 hours, until the arrival of representatives of the Embassy of Haiti in Santo Domingo, who arrived around noon. Subsequently, the police were able to transport the injured to hospital Ney Arias Lora where they have received appropriate care before leaving the hospital in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, the engineers involved in the incident left the construction site for fear of reprisals, and despite the return of calm, works did not resume Monday.

The name of the security officer responsible for the shooting, an Army sergeant, was not disclosed. According to our information he was arrested for questioning and would be held in a municipality of Santo Domingo Este.
