Haiti - Sports : Haiti will participate in the XIII edition of the University Games
The Haitian University Sports Federation (Fédération Haïtienne du Sport Universitaire FEHSU) confirmed the participation of Haiti in the thirteenth edition of Central American and Caribbean University Games to be held from 1st to October 10, 2010 in Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic. The opening of these games, where over 1,000 athletes participate in 11 disciplines, will be held Friday at 16:00 at the stadium Alfredo Smead.

The delegations of Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, El Salvador, Honduras, Haiti, Panama, Nicaragua, Curacao, Martinique and U.S. Virgin Islands are expected on Thursday to join those of Mexico, Cuba, Guatemala and Colombia already on site. This is the third time that Dominican Republic is hosting the games.

Haiti will be present in two disciplines: Basketball and Taek-Won-Do. In Basketball will take part among others Pascal Jeune, Makinzi St Hubin, Nielsen Guillaume and Jephté Coriolan. In taekwondo, Tudor Sanon, gold medalist at the last edition of the event in 2008 in San Salvador will defend the colors of Haiti.

"The goal is primarily to allow Haiti to remain on the academic world sports scene..." said Erby Beralte, the Secretary General of FEHSU "competition will be very high indeed our competitors will be determined" but it keeps the hope that Haiti can still enroll in the medals table.

In addition to sports competitions will be held an international seminar will bring together dozens of presidents of Central America and the Caribbean, who will discuss for two days on the course and development of university sport in the region.
