Haiti - Tourism : Good news, more than $345M investment in the tourism sector
The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Industries (MTIC), which supports its sector's development strategy on the promotion of tourism investment, says that over the past four years, the Government has supported and accompanied by a set of investment projects in tourism and related services, for a total of over 345 million US dollars (345,423,867 dollars).

  • 35 tourist accommodation projects ;
  • 4 tourist transport projects of national character ;
  • Two tourist projects (Marina Blue and Duty Free Americas of Haiti) ;
  • 2,180 rooms in total, are built or under construction ;
  • 100 apartments are under construction ;
  • A hundred vehicles with drivers guides will ultimately be in circulation.

These projects have created 3,425 direct jobs and 10,275 indirect jobs (every direct job creates 3 indirect jobs), or a total of 13,700 direct and indirect jobs in tourism and related services.

Note that these private investment projects had been approved by the Interministerial Investment Commission (CII), a body established by the Investment Code in 2002, empowered to grant benefits incentives to investment projects in tourism and related services.

In addition, steps are being taken to facilitate the realization of significant investments in the sector. Some major projects have been launched including those of Ile-à-Vache, Côtes-de-Fer, Jacmel, Ile de la Tortue, Cap-Haïtien and Côte des Arcadins.

In fact, if these actions are realized through processes related to the promotion of Haitian tourism products, to the improvement of existing sites and tourist infrastructure, to the increase in the reception capacity and the development of Haiti's rich tourism potential, the tourism will be able to participate in the achievement of various objectives in terms of economic growth, poverty reduction, social healing and economic and social development for the benefit of the population.

Over the past three years, thanks to a set of measures adopted the MTIC has given the Haitian tourism a new dynamic. The number of visitor arrivals in Haiti has increased dramatically.

In 2013, Haiti received 1,063,370 visitors, including 643,634 cruise passengers and 419,736 stay tourists. An increase of stay of tourists in 2013 of 20.2% compared to 2012.

In 2014, Haiti received 1,127,577 visitors, whose 662,403 cruise passengers and 465,174 tourists stay. An increase of tourists stay in 2014 of 10.8% compared to 2013.
