Haiti - Justice : A delegation of UEH to the Croix-des-Bouquets prison
Monday, as part of the commitment of the State University of Haiti (UEH) in favor of respect of the rights and physical integrity of the human person, a delegation of UEH led by the Rector, Jean Vernet Henry, visited the student Chedlet Guilioux, imprisoned to the Croix-des-Bouquets prison, accused of setting fire on February 23 to a bus of the Superior Court of Auditors and Administrative Disputes (CSC/CA) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-13255-haiti-security-arson-of-a-bus-of-the-court-of-auditors.html

The delegation was composed of the Rector of the UEH, Professor Jean Vernet Henry, Professor Wilson Darius, Secretary General of the UEH, the lawyer of the rectorate, Me Monferrier Dorval and Lyonel Sanon, Chief of Staff of the rector.

The purpose of the visit was to observe the conditions of imprisonment of Chedlet Guilloux, the health and physical state in which he is and to understand what effectively happened on the day of his arrest. Following discussions with Chedlet Guilloux, the Rector was able to obtain the version of the student on the circumstances of his arrest. According to his statement, he says he did not participate in any demonstration that day. He was returning from the town of Verrettes where he had hosted a training session, when it was indexed because of his hairstyle, arrested and brutally manhandled by security officers of the Superior Court of Auditors and Administrative Disputes (CSC/CA).

The Rectorate of the UEH condemns the physical abuse exerted on the person of the student and asks that legal procedures are accelerated, so that justice determines the involvement whether or not of Chedlet Guilloux in the facts that he would be charged. The Rector wants justice be done to him also for the acts of violence he suffered.
