Haiti - Politic : Workshop on Territorial Planning of the North and Northeast
On Tuesday, the Prime Minister, Evans Paul on a visit in the departments of North and Northeast, officially opened at Henri Christophe campus of the State University of Haiti (UEH), a two-day workshop (March 24 and 25) on the Territorial Planning of the North and Northeast.

In his speech the Head of Government reaffirmed the commitment of the Administration Martelly and of the Government he leads, to support the efforts of decentralization and deconcentration "[...] which alone, can help to build a better future for Haiti which must rebuild its production capacity and of export for the benefit of the entire population."

The Prime Minister stated that the Haitian state, by building the national road #6, by financing the Caracol Industrial Park and the Free Zone of Ouanaminthe (Codevi), the expansion of the international airport of Cap-Haitien, and while being at work in the rehabilitation of the Port of Cap-Haitien, recognizes the economic importance of this region "[...] Today I come say that we must go further. While encouraging the private sector in Haiti and overseas businessmen to invest in the country, we also come to raise the issue of governance [...]"

Moreover, the Prime Minister strongly emphasized the need to have a Territorial Planning plan and especially the efforts required to run it. A Territorial Planning plan prepared and published in December 2012 for the corridor Cap-Ouanaminthe, is taken into account by State partners "We want the infrastructures are always well maintained, repaired, we want the investments already made still attract more investment, and we want the jobs created still attract more jobs and opportunities for all. We want the populations find decent housing, clean water, we want that waste is properly managed. In short, we want the environment in general is well maintained for the benefit of all populations. In other words, to ensure the sustainability of investments and prevent the shantytowns of this geographical area that constitute the Northern Department and the Department Northeast of Haiti, it is necessary to have a development plan and we must execute it [...]"

For his part, Michèle Oriol executive secretary of the Interministerial Committee for Territorial Planning (CIAT), revealed that studies show that nearly a million people are expected in the corridor Cap-Ouanaminthe. Hence the need to modernize the economy of the area, evenly distributed the population, reduce the vulnerability of the territory, feed a population without destroying its natural resources...

The ceremony, which was attended by Jude Hervé Day, Minister of Trade and Industry, Ms. Colombe E. Gessie Menos, Secretary of State for Creative Industries, Gilles Damais, Head of Operations of the Bank Inter-American Development (IDB) was an opportunity to put the spotlight on an issue of extreme importance to the future of our country.

As for the visit of the head of government at the Caracol Industrial Park, it shows not only a support to servants of the National Society of Industrial Parks (Sonapi) present at Caracol, but also reflects the Government's support to investors while acknowledging the work and courage of the workers.
