Haiti - Education : Toward a MBA program in Haiti
This week, the University of Notre Dame D'Haiti (UNDH) announced plans to launch in Haiti by the summer of 2016, a Master of Business Administration (MBA).

This program was presented by Dr. Paul Latortue, Vice-Rector of the UNDH and former Dean of the Faculty of Management at the University of Puerto Rico [where he teaches economics], one of the 5 best management schools in the world "The Program will be given on two campus of Port-au-Prince and Gonaives [...] The course cycle will last 18 months [...] Students must accumulate 48 credits. To get everyone on the same pedestal, it is anticipated leveling courses," explained Paul Latortue, noting that students will graduate from UNDH and also from Puerto Rico Catholic University after a bilateral cooperation agreement, signed in March 2014 between the two universities.

"This program is of vital importance for our country because students can not obtain such a degree because there is no school that gives specialized courses at this level in case [...] A program MBA will provide the opportunity to train competent professionals in the management of organizations, the development of production and the establishment of new business," added Yves-Marie Pean, Bishop of Gonaives, present to this announcement.

Dr. Paul Latortue stated that despite the very high cost of the MBA program abroad, it will cost much cheaper to the UNDH for professionals and young Haitians to get a MBA in Haiti "The MBA will cost in the country 10,000 US dollars," noting that "in the Dominican Republic, MBA equivalent cost 30,000 dollars and 60,000 dollars in Florida."

However, to implement this program in Haiti, the University of Notre Dame D'Haiti needs US $400,000 to build new infrastructure and additional $200,000 for the remuneration of foreign teachers.

To realize this project, the Board of UNDH has sought the collaboration of the Haitian banking sector including Sogebank, Capital Bank and Unibank, which showed openness to this Program. In his address, Charles Castel, Governor of the Central Bank said he was confident about the realization of this Program "The thing is playable and possible. With the Catholic Church as a perennial institution overseeing this initiative, I do not see how not materialize this project."
